Lizzie, one of the interns, is one of the most complex designs on the cast. Concept design by Scott Campbell, built from a lot of scribbles to base the 3D character off of. Translating that into 3D took a lot of research into real-life materials, figuring out what would best convey her personality while staying faithful to the concept design. There was also a lot of back-and-forth between us to translate his vision.
Her material pass varied widely too — from creating several hand-painted textures and my own designs for her tattoos and pins, creating and designing several procedural patterns for her clothings, all the way to working with a VFX artist to create the iridescent feather material for her jacket in the engine.
The ZBrush sculpt included here shows the level of detail carried by the sculpt itself versus what was built through material and paint work.
